BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN News Bits: The Heroes Speak, Iconic Imagery, And…Doomsday?

A slew of Batman vs. Superman nuggets made their way online today. A couple of them were posted earlier today, but the rest will be included in the following round-up.

*We heard Ben Affleck talk today about Zack Snyder’s take on Batman, and in another interview (this time with Playboy, via Latino-Review), the actor-director discusses landing the role again. “When they asked if I would be Batman, I told them I don’t see myself in the role and I was going to have to beg off. They said I’d fit well into how they were going to approach the character and asked me to look at what the writer-director, Zack Snyder, was doing. The stuff was incredible. It was a unique take on Batman that was still consistent with the mythology. It made me excited. All of a sudden I had a reading of the character. When people see it, it will make more sense than it does now or even than it did to me initially.” He also comments on how his Batman will be different from Christian Bale’s, saying that he will be playing an older and wiser Dark Knight. “I don’t want to give away too much, but the idea for the new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn’t compete with the Bale and Chris Nolan Batman but still exists within the Batman canon. It will be an older and wiser version, particularly as he relates to Henry Cavill’s Superman character.” You can read more from Affleck at the link above.

*Meanwhile, Superman Henry Cavill has talked more about co-starring with Affleck in Batman vs. Superman. Speaking with Metro, the actor comments on how Batman and Superman are two sides of the same coin, and hints at the progression of the two heroes’ relationship in the film. “The next instalment, as we all know, is involving another rather important character, and I’m looking very forward to that interaction, because ultimately they’re two sides of the same coin. How they interact, how they clash and how they ultimately aim towards the same goal is going to be an interesting relationship, and I look forward to playing that with Ben especially.”

*Frequent Zack Snyder VFX supervisor John Desjardin recently spoke with Bleeding Cool, where he confirmed that he was working on Batman vs. Superman. While sharing his and Snyder’s desire to please fans and audiences, he teases their work on “iconic representations” of the characters. “I was working on Batman-Superman right before this interview, a lengthy discussion with Zack looking at a bunch of drawings he’d made on his whiteboard that charted some iconic representations of… well, of things we’re going to have to try and do. Zack told me two weeks before Comic Con exactly how he was going to present the Batman announcement, and it was exactly the way he did present it. I got chills up my spine. What I want to get out of this movie is helping Zack tell a satisfying version of these characters, a version that nobody has seen on screen yet, but when audiences watch it they’re going to say “That’s what we always wanted to see but we hadn’t seen it yet.” Touch wood, because we have a long way to go, but the course is charted and we’re set to bring those ideas onto the screen, that something we haven’t seen before.” More from Desjardin at the link above.

*Warner Bros. producer Daniel Alter recently dropped some potential details about Ben Affleck’s Batman on his Twitter handle, @DAlter007. Now, he’s back with a couple more Batman vs. Superman tidbits, one of which has been heavily rumored. Earlier today, he tweeted, “Need to talk to some people tnite about #doomsday in #BatmanvsSuperman.” Of course, Doomsday is one of Superman’s most famous foes in comics, known for actually killing the Man of Steel. This is far from confirmation of the character appearing in Batman vs. Superman obviously, and it could easily just be some speculation. Alter also tweeted the following, reaffirming one of the biggest rumors surrounding the film so far. “#wonderwoman is going to be in #BatmanvsSuperman.” Finally, the producer (who admits that he isn’t actually involved in the movie’s involvement) says that Dick/Grayson/Nightwing will be “done right”.

Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters July 17th, 2015. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer.
