DC Entertainment Reportedly Developing Low Budget Adaptations For Spring And Fall Releases

It appears that DC Entertainment has a different and unexpected idea on how to further explore the DC Universe on film. A couple weeks ago, it was reported that movies for the likes of Deathstroke, Booster Gold and the Suicide Squad were being considered, with Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman scribe David S. Goyer involved. Now, Bleeding Cool has learned more about the studio’s future movie plans, in what may be its “big news for 2014”. According to the site, Warner Bros./DC will release two lower budget adaptations of lesser known comics a year – one in the spring, and one in the fall. Suicide Squad is specifically named as a movie that would cost around $40M, without marketing costs. Others could be made for as low as $20M. 

This is a unique strategy to explore the DC Cinematic Universe’s lesser known characters, while A-listers like Batman and Superman continue to dominate the summer. With this in mind, a 3-4 film a year strategy is much more realistic. Which characters should headline their own low budget movies?
