MAN OF STEEL Among Films Getting Oscar Push From Warner Bros.
Despite the mixed reactions to Man of Steel this year, Warner Bros. is still including it among the films that it will promote for the Oscars 2014 season. The studio launched a “For Your Consideration” website (which you can view by clicking HERE), where ten movies are being pushed for award nominations. The Superman reboot is being pushed for the following categories:
Best Picture
Best Director for Zack Snyder
Best Adapted Screenplay for David S. Goyer
Best Cinematography for Amir Mokri
Best Production Design for Alex McDowell and Anne Kuljian
Best Film Editing for David Brenner
Best Original Score for Hans Zimmer
Best Visual Effects for John “DJ” DesJardin, Guillaume Rocheron, Dan Lemmon and Ged Wright
Best Costume Design for James Acheson and Michael Wilkinson
Best Sound Editing for Scott Hecker and Eric A. Norris
Best Sound Mixing for Michael McGee, Chris Jenkins and Frank A. Montaño
Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Victoria Down and Anji Bemben
You can check WB’s “For Your Consideration” page for Man of Steel for more details. Unfortunately, the movie will unlikely be nominated for any major categories (if any categories at all) since it was such a mixed bag among critics. Man of Steel was also surprisingly snubbed from the Best Visual Effects finalists, even though movies with weaker CGI (such as World War Z) were included. Meanwhile, other films being pushed by WB this season include Gravity, Pacific Rim, 42, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and Her.
