BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Costume Designer Talks Approach To New Looks For Wonder Woman And More

We’ve previously heard from Batman vs. Superman costume designer Michael Wilkinson on developing new costumes for the DC Trinity, and now, he’s spoken in a little more detail. In an interview with New York Times, Wilkinson says that his approach to the Man of Steel follow-up is the same as his approach to any project, and that it’s an honor to be redesigning such iconic characters. “I have been given the opportunity to tackle a wide range of genres with my work: big superheroes, gritty contemporary, epic period, science fiction. It keeps me stimulated and challenged as an artist. At the moment, I’m designing the costumes for ‘Batman vs. Superman.’ It’s an honor to be creating new looks for such iconic characters as Wonder Woman. The interesting thing is that my approach is always the same, no matter the genre or the period. I’m using the same tools — silhouette, fabric, color, drape – to help tell the story and illuminate the inner life of the characters.” For the site’s full interview with the costume designer, click the link above.

Wilkinson previously confirmed that Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) will be getting brand new suits, and that Superman’s (Henry Cavill) look from Man of Steel will be tweaked. With production set to begin in early February, we should expect to get a glimpse of these new costumes soon.

Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters July 17th, 2015. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
