First Batman Villain To Appear On GOTHAM Series Is The Penguin

Recently, it was confirmed that Fox’s upcoming Gotham television series will not only feature Jim Gordon and a young Bruce Wayne, but also some of the city’s most iconic villains. The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler, and The Penguin have all been confirmed to appear in the show. Now, we know which of these foes will be the first to feature. According to Latino-Review‘s El Mayimbe, Oswald Cobblepot himself will be the first Batman villain of the series, and that casting for the character is underway. “Wanna know 1st batvillain that will appear on GOTHAM? A guy named OSWALD (20s) aka THE PENGUIN which is currently casting.” No other details on Penguin’s role in Gotham are known.
The Penguin was previously portrayed by Burgess Meredith in the 1960s Batman television series and movie, and by Danny DeVito in 1992’s Batman Returns. Commonly considered one of the most recognizable villains in the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery, Cobblepot has also appeared in various animated and video game incarnations. So, it’s not surprising to learn that he will soon return to the small screen in Gotham. Who do you think should play The Penguin?
Gotham is currently in the casting phase, with Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy) reportedly offered the role of Detective Harvey Bullock. Production is expected to begin this spring, and if ordered to series, it will likely premiere on Fox next fall.
