News Tidbits: Ticking Clock On Y: THE LAST MAN, Update On THE FLASH Production, Colin Farrell Talks Batfleck, ARROW S2E12 Promo

In this post, we have a handful of minor news updates regarding DC/Vertigo film and television properties. First up, Y: The Last Man co-creator Brian K. Vaughan has offered an update on the long in-development film adaptation. A director was hired last year, but there has been little movement since. Now, Vaughan tells Comic Book Resources that the movie has to begin production this year, or else the rights will return to him and Pia Guerra. “It’s my understanding that the rights to “Y: The Last Man” will revert back to co-creator Pia Guerra and me for the first time in a decade if the planned New Line adaptation doesn’t start shooting in the next few months, so I expect there will be some “Y” news in 2014 either way.”

Next, we have news on filming for The Flash pilot in Vancouver. While most pilots only film for two to three weeks, the Arrow spin-off will undergo its “huge” production for the entire month of March. It is expected to start shooting March 1st, and will wrap on the 29th. The pilot stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Jesse L. Martin as Detective West, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne, and Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow. The Flash is expected to be ordered to series, and will likely premiere on The CW next fall. Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell previously faced off in 2003’s Daredevil as the Man Without Fear and Bullseye, respectively. Now, Affleck is taking on the role of Batman in 2016’s Batman vs. Superman. We’ve heard a number of celebrities weigh in on the controversial casting decision, but Farrell has finally weighed in while speaking to Total Film. Unsurprisingly, he offers nothing but praise for the actor-director. “Good luck to him. I think he’ll do a great job. As an actor, I don’t know that I know anyone that’s improved as much as he has. That sounds like a sh*t thing to say. I always enjoyed watching him, as a director he’s extraordinary too, but his work in The Town and Argo, he was so fantastic in both those films. In Argo, it was such a controlled performance, I think he’ll kill as Batman, I hope he does and shuts the naysayers up.” Batman vs. Superman is expected to begin production in a few weeks, and will be released on May 6th, 2016.
Finally, we have an extended promo for this week’s episode of Arrow, “Tremors”. The episode follows the beginning of Roy Harper’s training with the Arrow, as he starts to learn how to control his rage. It also sees the return of Michael Jai White’s Bronze Tiger. “Tremors” airs this Wednesday at 8 PM EST on The CW.
