Scott Adkins Discusses His Batman Audition For BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN

Before Ben Affleck was cast as the Dark Knight in Batman vs. Superman, one of the actors reportedly up for the role was Scott Adkins. The British actor-martial artist posted on his Twitter account several days before the Batfleck announcement, saying that he was approached to audition for Batman. Now, speaking with Behind The Mask Presents (thanks to Comic Book Movie for the transcription), Adkins confirmed that he auditioned for the role. He says that it didn’t go beyond that point, and that he was aware of the fan campaign for him to be cast. “I don’t even know if I am supposed to talk about it. Well, yeah… They asked me to audition, yeah. And… so I did. But that’s as far as it went. I know there was a big campaign on the internet which was great for the free publicity but I think that’s because obviously Batman’s a martial artist, that’s his superpower, isn’t it? People are disappointed that he has not been shown off as the martial artist that he should be. I guess I look like Bruce Wayne… ”

Adkins then goes on to say that he never expected to land the role of Batman, and that he’s happy it went to Affleck. “I wasn’t crossing my fingers, I wasn’t holding my breath, it was great to have the opportunity to audition and let some of those people up in the higher positions know who I am and look at me. But I never expected it to happen. But that whole thing on the internet was just… I am flattered! But Ben Affleck I think is gonna do an amazing job, I’ve always been a huge fan of his and maybe when I’ve won an Oscar, I’ll get the kind of luck that he’s got! But it’s not luck is it? He deserves it.” Finally, he briefly commented on his approach to the audition, and that he was happy to have done it. “Well you can’t put too much pressure on yourself. Just think that it’s another audition. Otherwise you are gonna mess it up. So it’s best not to think of the magnitude of it. Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters July 17th, 2015.
