THE FLASH Pilot Casts LAW & ORDER’s Jesse L. Martin As Detective West

We finally have some casting news for The CW’s Flash pilot, which spins off from Arrow. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Law & Order actor Jesse L. Martin has landed the role of Detective West. Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters) was apparently up for the part previously. The character is described as “an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry [Allen]. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris — Barry’s potential love interest — West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother’s slaying and father’s imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father’s innocence.” Grant Gustin will reprise his role as Barry, while casting for Iris is underway. The pilot will see the debut of Barry in the Flash suit, which was originally planned as a backdoor pilot on Arrow
The Flash is being written by Geoff Johns, Andrew Kreisberg, and Greg Berlanti. David Nutter is set to direct the pilot. Production is expected to begin this spring. And if ordered to series, it will likely premiere on The CW next fall. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
