Adam Driver Was Actually Wanted For Lex Luthor In BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN; Matt Damon Has Seen Ben Affleck’s Batsuit

We have some new interesting tidbits for Batman vs. Superman today. The Hollywood Reporter has posted an article that goes behind-the-scenes of Jesse’s Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and why Zack Snyder and company decided to go with a younger actor for the role. In the Man of Steel sequel, Luthor will be a childhood friend with Clark Kent, taking influence from recent depictions of their relationship. Warner Bros. played around with the idea of an older Lex, but obviously decided not to pursue that path.
Also, it turns out Adam Driver – who was reportedly up for the role of Nightwing – was actually approached for Luthor, but a (scheduling?) conflict kept him from taking the part. Joaquin Phoenix was also sought for the role, but he turned it down. Fan-favorite Bryan Cranston, who many believed was a lock for Luthor before Eisenberg was cast, was never approached. The studio also didn’t talk to Tom Hanks, who was discussed “internally”. Additionally, Snyder and WB are casting roles from narrow shortlists, rather than multiple auditions.
In other Batman vs. Superman news, Matt Damon tells MTV that he has seen his buddy Ben Affleck suited up as the Caped Crusader. He also reveals that he knows the film’s storyline. “I’ve seen a picture. I have seen a picture. It’s excellent. And I’ve talked to him about the story line, and it’s great.” Despite plenty of controversy surrounding Affleck’s casting and whether or not he’s made the right choice, Damon says he’s convinced that his longtime friend is not making a mistake. “Look, I’ve known him for thirty-something years. I’d be the first guy being like, ‘Buddy, what are you doing?’ But I think the movie is going to be great.” We will reportedly get our first look at the Batsuit very soon, especially with production expected to start in the coming weeks.
Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
