ARROW: New Specs On Birds Of Prey, Suicide Squad, Nyssa Al Ghul’s Introduction, And More

Tomorrow night’s episode of Arrow will see the debut of Nyssa al Ghul, played by Katrina Law. The daughter of Ra’s al Ghul will be coming to Starling City in an attempt to bring Sara Lance back to the League of Assassins. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg talks about the second wave of the League to face off against Oliver Queen and company. “Second to [Ra’s al Ghul], [Nyssa]’s one of the most important figures in the League. They sent their first round of minions to come for Sara and that didn’t go so well for them, so now they’re bringing out the big guns.” 

Nyssa is said to have a “deep” connection to Sara, and her visit to Starling will have an unexpected effect on Arrow‘s characters. “The way Nyssa comes into the story is in a far more provocative and surprising way than the last round.” It is speculated that Nyssa and Sara were in a relationship at some point, and these details certainly fuel that (potentially controversial) idea.

Talk then turned to what to expect from the rest of the season. Kreisberg said that the next few episodes will be very villain-centric, bringing back some previously seen foes as well as “amazing” new antagonists. Marc Guggenheim calls Episodes 14-18 the “villain’s chapter”, the final episode having a big cliffhanger. 

One of these episodes will focus on the Suicide Squad. Last week’s episode ended with Amanda Waller offering Bronze Tiger a position on her “squad”, much to the excitement of fans. Episode 16, which will air on March 19th, will focus on the group. The episode – appropriately titled “Suicide Squad” – will be centered around Diggle, as he is recruited by Lyla for a mission with the Squad. One of these members is Floyd Lawton/Deadshot. Additionally, the episode will feature flashbacks of Diggle’s time in Afghanistan alongside Ted Gaynor.

The Suicide Squad isn’t the only well-known DC Comics group coming to Arrow. Episode 17, dubbed “Birds of Prey”, will plant the seeds for the team of the same name. Marc Guggenheim says, “We gave ourselves room to grow and evolve. Birds of Prey is very much the same thing. You’re not going to end up with the Holy Trinity of Oracle, Black Canary and Huntress right out of the gate. We’ll get there.” The episode will see the return of Jessica de Gouw as The Huntress. Andrew Kreisberg teases what to expect, including what brings Black Canary into the mix. “She’s become consumed by this vengeance for her father and when we see her she’s in a very haggard and worn-out state. It’s the big final confrontation between her and her father, and Laurel gets in the crossfire, and the Canary has to go into the rescue.”

As for what else to expect for the rest of the season, Isabel Rochev (Summer Glau) will be returning in Episode 18, and we will find out what she has been up to since we last saw her in the mid-season finale. And finally, we will continue to see Roy’s struggle in properly using his powers, with the next five episodes focusing on his training with Oliver. He will also interact with fellow “Team Arrow” members Felicity and Diggle.
