Watch Jesse Eisenberg Talk About BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Back In October 2013

Yesterday, Warner Bros. announced another internet-shattering casting announcement for Batman vs. Superman, but this one is arguably the most bizarre. The Social Network and Now You See Me star Jesse Eisenberg has landed the role of Lex Luthor. It’s easy to dismiss this idea as a miscast, especially with the likes of Joaquin Phoenix, Bryan Cranston and Mark Strong being rumored for the part. However, Eisenberg is a solid actor, and while he may not seem like an obvious fit for Luthor, he could very well surprise us all. But how long was he up for the role before being cast?

Total Film has posted a snippet of its video interview with Eisenberg and his The Double co-star Richard Ayoade from October 2013. As the site has in various interviews recently, Total Film asked Eisenberg and Ayoade if they preferred Batman or Superman, and if they would be interested in joining the Man of Steel follow-up. Ayoade does most of the talking, expressing his excitement. But Eisenberg is noticeably quiet for most of the time, and looks slightly uncomfortable while the topic is being discussed. That substantiates the possibility of the Oscar nominee being up for Lex Luthor some time before being cast. Watch the interview snippet below, and hopefully, we’ll hear more soon.

Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
