BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN News Bits: David Goyer Talks Balancing Characters, Eliza Dushku & Anne Hathaway On Catwoman, Jesse Eisenberg Can’t Say Anything

Speaking with Collider, David S. Goyer spoke about his approach to adapting characters in scripts such as Batman vs. Superman, for which he wrote the original draft. He reaffirms that he seeks to honor each character he writes, and discusses balancing influence from what the fans want and what is best for his vision. “I always try my best to honor every character. When you’re dealing with big iconic characters, there’s a lot of fan pressure to get it right, and I respect that and admire that passion enormously. At the same time, you can’t let your creative process be too crowded by that or distracted by it. It’s not always one uniform opinion of how you should portray this character or that character. I think I’ve done a pretty good job of walking that razor’s edge. You just have to do your best and know what’s out there, but at the same time, follow your own muse.” For more from Goyer, click the link above.
MTV caught up with Jesse Eisenberg at the Rio 2 press junket, and obviously, the actor was asked about his Lex Luthor. When quizzed on whether or not he’s shaving his head for the villainous role, Eisenberg remained mum on any and all details. “I’m not allowed to say anything about anything for the next six years.” He then joked that he hasn’t called his mother back in several months. Given the track record of secrecy for Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Trilogy, it’s unsurprising that Batman vs. Superman is also keeping its actors from saying much.
Finally, we have a couple of tidbits from two past Catwoman actors expressing interest in reprising the role. Firstly, ComicBook.com spoke with Eliza Dushku, who voiced Selina Kyle in 2011’s Batman: Year One animated feature. When asked if she’d be up for playing the character in live action, she expressed his enthusiasm for the idea. “I of course will keep my phone on and would scratch and claw at the chance to film her in live action form.” At 33, Dushku would be ideal for an older Catwoman by the time she’s brought back onto the big screen, which likely won’t happen until Ben Affleck’s first solo outing as Batman at the earliest.
Meanwhile, MTV also chatted with Jesse Eisenberg’s Rio 2 co-star, Anne Hathaway. As we all know, the Oscar winning actress played Selina Kyle in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. After her stunning performance there, many have brought up the possibility of a Catwoman spin-off. Now, MTV asks again if Hathaway would be up for a solo movie, or even a reprisal for Batman vs. Superman“I would love it if that happened,” she replied, but affirms that she has not heard anything about such a move, making it unlikely.
Filming on Batman vs. Superman is expected to commence in the coming weeks, so some solid news should come soon. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016.
