DC Movie News Bits: More From Josh Brolin On Turning Down Batman + Henry Jackman On Composing A DC Film

Before Ben Affleck was cast as Batman for 2016’s Man of Steel follow-up, Josh Brolin was reportedly a frontrunner for the highly coveted role. He later confirmed that he was approached, but couldn’t iron out a deal. Now, speaking with Yahoo!, the Labor Day star comments on his being up for Batman yet again. He said that he did meet with director Zack Snyder, but the two apparently didn’t have the same vision for Batman’s portrayal. “Me and Zack had a conversation about it. And there were several reasons why we said it wasn’t the best idea on both sides. I had mine and Zack had his.”

Brolin also reaffirms his endorsement of Ben Affleck playing the Dark Knight, again criticizing the backlash from the online community. “People were so disrespectful. How can you blame an actor for acting? I understand you’re a fan, but people forget that actors are human. When you’re sitting in front of a computer it’s easy to go, ‘Well, I wish he would die. Send.’ But somebody’s going to read that. Their kids are going to read it and the wife is going to read it. We’re so computer-oriented that we forget.” He concludes by saying that Affleck will be perfect as Bruce Wayne, based on the trailer for Runner Runner.

Composer Henry Jackman is presently best known for his work on Captain Phillips, X-Men: First Class, and next week’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He also served as music arranger for The Dark Knight. However, would he be interested in providing the entire score for a DC movie? Comic Book Therapy asked Jackman that question while he was promoting The Winter Soldier, and he had this to say in response. “Absolutely. To be honest with you because I’m not an absolute aficionado, I know who owns which characters and such, I tend to look at these projects as I’m not wedded to a certain superhero or studio (one of the lucky things about being self-employed). It’s more about the story and the characters. So yeah, in a heartbeat. Where there’s a good story, a good cast, a good director, and enough money to make all of that work where you can do a decent job, there’s an opportunity, if you’re lucky, to write some ambitious music for what someone is trying to achieve.
