Jeremy Irons Talks “Unfinished” BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Script, His Take On Alfred, And Ben Affleck As Batman

One of the supporting characters in Warner Bros.’ Batman vs. Superman is Alfred Pennyworth, who will be played by the wonderful Jeremy Irons. Speaking with Absolute Radio (via Man of Steel Fan Page) at the Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success Awards, the Oscar nominee is asked about playing Batman’s butler in the Man of Steel sequel. While he remains mum on details, he says he’s unaware of how he will play the character, mostly because he hasn’t read a finished script yet. “The script isn’t entirely finished… I’ve read a script. I think it’s not finalized yet.” Irons then says that he will be watching Michael Caine – who brilliantly played Alfred in The Dark Knight Trilogy – “closely”.
Talk turned to Ben Affleck playing Bruce Wayne/Batman. While the Argo star’s casting as the Dark Knight has been deemed controversial, Irons offers nothing but praise for his future co-star. “I think [his casting] is a wonderful idea. He’s a lovely man and an interesting actor. I’m looking forward to getting to know him. I’ve only met him once.” Below is Absolute Radio’s full video interview with Irons.
Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
