BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN News Bits: Warner Bros. On CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 Face-Off, Callan Mulvey Comments, Holly Hunter’s Character Revealed?

Ever since Warner Bros. pushed Batman vs. Superman to May 6th, 2016, there has been much talk over its taking on an unknown Marvel Studios movie on that date. After the record-breaking opening of Marvel’s latest film, the excellent Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the studio confirmed that its 5/6/16 movie is indeed Steve Rogers’ next solo outing. Despite The Winter Soldier‘s success, however, WB is still intending to release its next DC movie on that date.

Dan Fellman, Warner Bros.’ president of domestic distribution, recently told Bloomberg that, despite Captain America 3 tackling it head-on, there are no plans to move Batman vs. Superman‘s release date. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16. However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for ‘Batman vs. Superman.’” Disney/Marvel declined to comment on the super competition.

Of course, considering the fact that we are over two years away from this date, anything can change. With both tentpoles reaffirming their position, however, it looks like we’re in for the ultimate DC/Marvel showdown.

In other Batman vs. Superman news, 300: Rise of an Empire and Captain America: The Winter Soldier actor Callan Mulvey has commented on his recent casting in the film. Speaking with Sydney Confidential, Mulvey remained mum on details, but expressed his excitement for reuniting with Zack Snyder. “Zack is such a visionary, so I know it’s going to be an amazing project. Talent as a director aside, people really love working for Zack and being on his sets, which says it all really.” After being rumored for roles such as Doomsday and Metallo, Mulvey was recently confirmed for Batman vs. Superman, but as an original character created specifically for the movie.

Finally, we have a rumor concerning Holly Hunter’s character in the Man of Steel sequel. Like Mulvey, the Oscar winner was said to be playing an original character by Warner Bros., but this latest report from Latino-Review suggests otherwise. According to the site, Hunter is playing Leslie Thompkins, or at least a “replacement” character for the role. In the comics, Thompkins was a doctor who worked with Thomas Wayne before his murder. In the past, she has been depicted as a close ally of Bruce, not unlike Alfred. Of course, this bit is far from confirmed, so take it with a pinch of salt until we hear something more solid.

Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters May 6th, 2016. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto, Holly Hunter, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
