Breaking: Zack Snyder Confirmed To Direct JUSTICE LEAGUE For 2017/2018 Release; Will Shoot Back-To-Back With SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN

Warner Bros. recently teased a major DC movie announcement, and now it’s here. Via Wall Street Journal, WB President of Worldwide Production Greg Silverman confirms that Zack Snyder, who directed Man of Steel and the tentatively titled Superman vs. Batman, will return for the Justice League movie. “It will be a further expansion of this universe. Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League,” he says. Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot are expected to reprise their roles as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, respectively. And with Ray Fisher playing Cyborg/Victor Stone in Superman vs. Batman, he will likely be a member of the big screen JLA too.

The script is currently in development, and even though WSJ says it likely won’t be released before 2018, The Hollywood Reporter says that a 2017 debut is possible. Latino-Review even has a rumored release date: May 5th, 2017. That is another date previously nabbed by Marvel Studios, who plans to release an unknown movie then. Superman vs. Batman, which starts filming next month, is currently on course to go head-to-head with Captain America 3 on May 6th, 2016. If this Justice League rumor is true, then it’s further proof of WB/DC’s confidence in going up against Marvel.

Meanwhile, THR confirms that Superman vs. Batman and Justice League WILL shoot back-to-back, and the former will feature many Justice Leaguers in supporting or cameo roles. Currently, Victor Stone will be in only one scene. As for what the League lineup will look like, characters such as Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman are expected to join Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg.

Additionally, WSJ adds that WB is developing several DC properties that are “unconnected” to the Justice League, including Shazam, Fables, Metal Men and 100 Bullets. The former is surprising, as Shazam is a well-known member of the JLA. It’s unclear whether the Shazam movie is in a separate universe from Justice League or not, however. Additionally, while there are no plans for Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman to headline her own movie (yet), WB is very interested in the idea. President of Worldwide Marketing Sue Kroll says, “That is our hope. With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her.”

This is certainly thrilling news, signaling that WB is very serious about bringing its DC properties to the big screen. With Superman vs. Batman starting production soon, even more news is expected in the coming weeks and months – Comic-Con should be particularly crazy.
