DC Movie News Bits: First BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN BTS Pic, Jonathan Nolan Talks Batfleck, Anthony Mackie Campaigns For WONDER WOMAN Movie

The Dark Knight Trilogy co-writer Jonathan Nolan, brother of director Chris Nolan, recently appeared on Larry King Now (via Man of Steel Fan Page). Naturally, he was asked to share his thoughts on Ben Affleck replacing Christian Bale as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel. Also naturally, Nolan was very positive about this news, and reveals if he found it to be surprising. “No, I think it’s… Warner Bros has a fantastic relationship with Ben. He’s a fantastic filmmaker, and a phenomenal lead. I think he’s going to be an incredible Batman.” He then explains what makes him a fan of the iconic character. “His superpowers were rage and money. There was nothing extraordinary about him. He was an ordinary man, sufficiently pissed off to want and go turn his life into a simple go out and fight crime in the middle of the night.”

Anthony Mackie can currently be seen in theaters as Falcon in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, he has now advocated the development of a key DC movie – Wonder Woman. Speaking with Geek Dad, the actor shares his desire to see more diversity in superhero movies, particularly for female audiences. “Scarlett [Johansson] does great representation for all the other girls, but there should be a Wonder Woman movie. I don’t care if they make 20 bucks, if there’s a movie you’re gonna lose money on, make it Wonder Woman. You know what I mean, ’cause little girls deserve that. There’s so many of these little people out here doing awful things for money in the world of being famous. And little girls see that. They should have the opposite spectrum of that to look up to.” Very well said here. Wonder Woman will make her big screen debut in 2016’s Batman vs. Superman, so hopefully, Diana Prince will get her long-awaited solo movie shortly afterwards.

And now, to save the biggest tidbit for last. Various cast and crew members of Batman vs. Superman are now in Detroit, gearing up for the start of production. Cinematographer Larry Fong is among them, and recently posted what looks to be a behind-the-scenes image from the film. He adds the following caption, confirming that the movie will be shot on film. “I hear film is dead. But can I please finish this movie first?” As for what the image contains other than the Panavision camera, it’s hard to tell. However, the blurry figure on the far right looks like it could be Ben Affleck – perhaps in a Bruce Wayne-style business set? It’s hard to tell, but this reaffirms that the filming start date is on the horizon. And with that, we should finally get our first official look at the new Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman costumes.
