DC Movie News Bits: Update On Batfleck’s Training, Gina Carano Talks Wonder Woman, Richard Ayoade Endorses Jesse Eisenberg As Lex Luthor

After getting Ben Affleck in excellent shape for The Town, trainer Rehan Jalali is reteaming with the actor-director for his Dark Knight role in Batman vs. Superman. Affleck has been beefing up to play Batman for several months, and we now have an update from Jalali. During a Q&A session on Twitter, the trainer commented on how big Affleck will be as Batman, revealing that they’re going for a “real-life superhero look” for the Caped Crusader’s next big screen outing. “Big muscular yet lean and good body symmetry! Going for the Real-life superhero look! #RJfit.” Jalali later followed that up with, “Update: Batman is getting Large! He’s working very hard! #Dedication #Excited #DarkKnight #BatFleck #TheSixPackDietPlan.” He later deleted these tweets, but thanks to SuperHeroHype for embedding them beforehand.

Before Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel, Gina Carano was among the fan favorites for the role. It’s easy to see why – she looks rather spot-on for Diana Prince, she’s an impressive fighter who’s also a decent actress, and she’s dating Superman actor Henry Cavill. Of course, with Fast & Furious 6 co-star Gadot landing the role, this casting is now highly unlikely. However, while speaking with IndieWire, Carano once again weighs in on fans wanting her to play Wonder Woman, as well as what she wishes to see in a super-heroine. “Wonder Woman is something people ask me a lot about, and that’s such a huge compliment. I can’t wait to see [Batman vs. Superman]. What I want to see in an action heroine, and in Wonder Woman, [are] the two parts I have in me. One is very creative, emotional, female, protective, with motherly instincts and sisterly instincts, but the other side of me is this really aggressive skill set. There’s anger and violence in there. As far as action heroines, I want to play a character who is very realistic and very human.” Carano’s latest movie, In the Blood, opens this weekend.

When Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor earlier this year, it resulted in plenty of backlash and controversy. However, Eisenberg’s The Double director, Richard Ayoade, is fond of the idea of the Oscar nominee playing Superman’s arch nemesis. In an interview with Metro, the actor-filmmaker had this to say about the casting. “He’s always good so I think he’ll be good in it. In The Double, he’s shown he can be really sinister and frightening as well as being likeable, being the person you want to follow. And he’s not one of those actors afflicted by personal vanity and wanting to actually be sympathetic. He just does what feels right for the character he’s playing.” And would Ayoade himself be up for a role in the movie? “I can’t imagine there’d be a suitable role for me unless they want the role of Nasal Man.” Batman vs. Superman hits theaters on May 6th, 2016.
