Fox’s GOTHAM Series Finds Its Riddler In Cory Michael Smith

We will be seeing younger versions of Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin and Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the Gotham pilot, and Fox’s Batman prequel series has found its actor for future Riddler Edward Nygma. According to Entertainment Weekly, Camp X-Ray alum Cory Michael Smith has landed the role of the popular Batman villain. He will appear as Mr. Nygma in a guest starring role in the pilot, and may expand to a series regular. Gotham‘s Nygma is described as “a brilliant young forensic scientist working for Gotham PD and a penchant for speaking in … rather cryptic language. Inquisitive, eccentric and outgoing — yet socially awkward — he wants to be liked, but he doesn’t quite know how.”

The Riddler was previously played by Frank Gorshin in the 1960s Batman television series and film, while Jim Carrey played the character in 1995’s Batman Forever. Nygma was also heavily rumored to be featured in The Dark Knight Rises for some time, with actors such as Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio rumored for the role. Now, he will make his next live action appearance in Gotham, alongside iconic villains such as Penguin, Catwoman, and Joker (who has yet to be cast). The series is expected to premiere on Fox next fall.
