DC Movie News Bits: Marc Guggenheim Wants Green Lantern In JUSTICE LEAGUE, Gina Carano On Gal Gadot As Wonder Woman, Josh Harnett Talks Superhero Roles

While Green Lantern’s big screen debut was a critical and financial dud back in 2011, a variation of the character is still expected to feature in Warner Bros.’ planned Justice League movie. After all, Lantern – whether it’s Hal Jordan or John Stewart – has always been portrayed as a founding member of the team. While speaking with IGN, Green Lantern and Arrow writer Marc Guggenheim weighed in on his desire to see the Emerald Knight return in DC’s superhero ensemble, which is targeting a release in 2017 or 2018. “I would love it. At the end of the day, I just want to see a great Justice League movie. I think they’re putting a lot of really cool pieces into play with the first two Superman movies and I’m basically a sucker for a great comic book movie. As long as they’re doing something awesome, I’ll be the first one in line.” With Justice League on the fast track, we should expect casting news for Green Lantern within the coming months or so – however, it probably won’t be Ryan Reynolds.

While Gina Carano had been a fan favorite for the role of Wonder Woman, it was her Fast & Furious 6 co-star Gal Gadot who was cast in the part for Superman vs. Batman. In an interview with Toronto Sun, Carano discusses the interest in her playing Wonder Woman, but affirms that she was never approached. “That started about four or five years ago, even before Haywire people were saying stuff like that. I was never approached, and I don’t know if I was considered.” As for Gadot playing Diana Prince, Carano is fully supportive of the choice. “I worked with her on Fast & Furious 6, and she’s amazing. Such a great person with such a solidness in her character, so I’m very excited for her to do that.”

While Gadot is arguably an inspired choice for Wonder Woman, many fans disagree. There have been a number of complaints regarding the actress’s physical shape, claiming that Wonder Woman should be larger. Guess they didn’t know that actors tend to work out to fill such a physically demanding role. Anyways, Carano had this to say about the controversy. “I think people have an idea what they consider Wonder Woman. I definitely know (Gadot) has been training and there’s so much more that goes into being a strong female character. I think people have their own idea, but I always like the underdog, I’m always rooting for the underdog. If the world says you can’t do something, I couldn’t care less because that’s not how anybody should live their lives.” For more from the In the Blood actress, click the link above.

Speaking with Details while promoting Penny Dreadful, actor Josh Harnett weighs in on his being offered multiple superhero roles several years ago. He was asked to play Superman in both Superman Returns and the canned Batman vs. Superman, and here, he admits that he was also approached for Batman and Spider-Man. “Spider-Man was something we talked about. Batman was another one. But I somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn’t want that. I didn’t want to be labeled as Superman for the rest of my career. I was maybe 22, but I saw the danger.” However, if he was offered a comic book role today, would he give a different response? “I’d say, ‘Let’s talk about how it would be done, see if we can get on the same page.’ Compromise doesn’t scare me anymore.” With the superhero movie genre in full force, it’s only a matter of time before Harnett lands a DC or Marvel role.
