GOTHAM Officially Ordered To Series By Fox [UPDATE: First Trailer To Premiere Tonight]

It has been expected since the pilot order, but now it’s official. Fox has officially ordered the Batman prequel Gotham to series, giving it a slot on the network’s 2014-2015 schedule. The show, which stars Ben McKenzie as Det. James Gordon, is described as “an origin story of the great DC Comics super-villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.” The pilot, written by Bruno Heller and directed by Danny Cannon, is expected to premiere this fall.

Gotham also stars David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/Riddler. With this announcement, we should expect more news and even first footage in the near future.

Gotham is the first major series order of the season. With Fox and other television networks unveiling their schedules this month, details on DC’s other pilots – The Flash, iZombie, and Constantine – will come shortly. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.

UPDATE: Entertainment Weekly reveals that the first Gotham trailer will debut tonight on Fox, airing during the premiere of 24: Live Another Day. So, it looks like the marketing campaign for the newly ordered series is about to ramp up. EW also reveals that Fox’s series order is for “at least” 13 episodes.
