THE FLASH’s Grant Gustin Discusses Barry’s Secret Identity, Being A Fanboy, DC Universe Easter Eggs And Potential ARROW Crossovers

After appearing in two episodes of Arrow as Barry Allen, Grant Gustin will get his own superhero show this fall with The Flash. In an interview with IGN, the actor talks about Barry’s balancing his excitement and worry for his new-found powers. “Barry’s just excited by all of this. He’s a fanboy! And I don’t have to hide my excitement as I play the role, so it’s really fun to play with. At the same time though, it’s in a reality-based world, so there is an aspect of him that’s a little worried about what’s happening to his body. But at the same time, once he starts to get a handle on it, it’s the coolest thing that’s happened to anybody, as far as Barry is concerned.” As for how Allen’s secret identity will be approached, Gustin states that it will be handled differently from Arrow. “We’re not going to play the same game that they played on Arrow, where it was a secret. There will be some characters that Barry’s specifically trying to keep it from, but his circle – for the most part – is going to know that he’s The Flash.”

Speaking of Arrow, Gustin reaffirms that there will be crossovers between it and the Flash spin-off. “I don’t know which characters, but there are going to be crossovers for sure between the two shows. I don’t know who it’s going to be, but yes, that’s gonna happen.” The Flash pilot will already feature a crossover, as Stephen Amell’s Arrow will make a cameo. And finally, like Arrow, The Flash will have plenty of DC Universe Easter eggs. “There’s probably Easter eggs that I’m not even catching because Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti are so good at that. There’s going to be so many Easter eggs for the fans; it’s so fun.” Which DCU references would you like to see on The Flash?
