Warner Bros. Reportedly Planning Next Batman Solo Film In 2019; Working Title Revealed

Batman will be featured prominently in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League, and will be played by Ben Affleck in both. Recently, a list of DC films spanning from 2016 to 2018 was leaked online, but a solo Batman film was noticeably missing. Now, we know why. According to Latino-Review, Warner Bros. is planning to release the Dark Knight’s next standalone outing in 2019. Also, the working title is said to be The Batman. Of course, anything can change within five years, but this move makes sense.

Batman v. Superman is expected to complete production by December this year. And after a holiday break, Justice League will begin that winter. Then, during Summer 2015, Affleck will likely film his next directorial effort, Live by Night, which is scheduled for October 2016. If The Batman releases in 2019, then production will probably begin in 2017 or 2018. So, a screenplay can be written in between the releases of Live by Night and Justice League, if not sooner.

Then there’s the question of whether or not Affleck will direct The Batman. The actor-director was a frequently suggested choice for the director’s seat even before he was cast, and he likes to star in films that he directs in. He does not have a movie lined up beyond Live by Night to helm, so he can tackle a Batman film shortly afterwards. Also, after his last effort, Argo, won Best Picture, WB would be thrilled to have him direct the studio’s next Bat-movie. Hopefully, we’ll hear more details on this sooner than later.
