ARROW Season 3 Casts Two More Characters As Liam Neeson Seeks To Reprise Ra’s al Ghul Role

A couple more additions to the cast of Arrow‘s third season were made this week. First up, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Glee actor Nolan Funk will guest star in the episode “The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak,” which will finally reveal Felicity’s past. Funk will play her “hacker boyfriend” from her time at MIT, Cooper Seldon. Yeah, that does sound a lot like The Big Bang Theory‘s Sheldon Cooper. It’s unknown if Seldon will appear in the flashback portions of the episode or the present day portions, if not both.

Meanwhile, Arrow has added yet another villain to its highly anticipated third season. According to Entertainment Weekly, Supernatural‘s Amy Gumenick has been cast as DC villainess Carrie Cutter, aka Cupid. The character was created by executive producer Andrew Kreisberg during his run on the Green Arrow/Black Canary comic series. Cupid is described as “a lethal villainness with a dangerously obsessive crush on The Arrow.” Kreisberg tells EW, “I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan. When I was writing the comic book, my big goal was to create a villain who would last. Cupid has since appeared in the DC Nation shorts on Cartoon Network, and to have her fight our TV Arrow is so much more than I ever could have hoped for the character.”

With the number of new DC characters appearing on Arrow this year, arguably the most exciting one is the inclusion of Ra’s al Ghul as the Big Bad. While the League of Assassins leader has yet to be cast, the actor who previously brought him to life is willing to do so again. Speaking with MTV, Liam Neeson was asked if he would be interested in reprising his Ra’s al Ghul role from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises for Arrow. “I would, in a heartbeat, if it came my way, yeah. Very much so.” He admits, however, that he has yet to be asked by Warner Bros. or The CW about it, which is unsurprising. In addition to Arrow being a completely separate world from The Dark Knight Trilogy, Neeson is most likely too big a name for The CW to afford, regardless of the actor’s interest in playing al Ghul again.

So, in the event that a new actor takes over the role, Neeson shares his advice. “They have to believe in their philosophy. Ra’s al Ghul absolutely believed what he was doing was ultimately saving civilization, and it was quite a good argument he comes up with. Throughout the ages this fraternity, that brought the plague to wipe out a section of mankind because it needed to be regenerated again. Very dangerous, but you have to believe it.” Expect casting news for Ra’s al Ghul to come soon. Arrow returns to The CW on October 8th.
