SUPERGIRL TV Series Is Being “Shopped Around” – But Don’t Expect It To Air On The CW [UPDATE: ARROW’s Greg Berlanti To Exec Produce]

Yesterday, a new rumor claimed that DC was planning a new television series starring Supergirl, with Michael Green attached to write and produce. Now, a more reliable source has confirmed this. According to E! Online, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are indeed pitching a Supergirl series to various networks. While the site reiterates Green’s involvement, however, the writer denied having any role in the show when speaking with Den of Geek. “Not true. Not me anyways. There are plenty of women better qualified. But if Kara does get her own series, I will watch the $#!+ out of it.” Of course, he could be denying involvement because he might be waiting on Supergirl being officially confirmed by WB/DC, or perhaps this part of the news just isn’t true. We’ll have to wait and see.

Additionally, one channel that probably won’t air the series is The CW. The network, which has aired Smallville, Arrow and its upcoming spin-off The Flash, was the first to receive the Supergirl pitch. No details on why the network turned it down, but it could be due to its comic book-heavy schedule for the next year or so. Meanwhile, Fox and NBC will be airing DC shows Gotham and Constantine, respectively, this fall. Maybe one or both of these networks could be in consideration? Of course, there are a number of possible options. Hopefully, we’ll hear more news on this project soon.

UPDATE:
More details on the Supergirl show have now been revealed via Deadline. According to the site, the series – which won’t be called Supergirl – will be executive produced by Arrow and The Flash EP Greg Berlanti and No Ordinary Family‘s Ali Adler, the latter of whom will write the show. DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns is also expected to be involved in an unknown capacity. And Michael Green was honest when he said he has no involvement, as Deadline has confirmed just that.

Produced by Warner Bros. TV, the series is described as “a new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story.” As for the title, Deadline says that a number of options are being considered and waiting to be cleared, including ‘Super’ and ‘Girl.’ The show is expected to be pitched to major networks in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for even more news as we have it.
