Warner Bros. Reportedly Developing A LEGION OF SUPERHEROES Movie

In addition to 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Warner Bros. has nine untitled DC films dated from then to 2020. There has been much speculation concerning what exactly these titles are. Justice League and Dwayne Johnson’s Shazam movie are a given, while an Aquaman film recently acquired writers. Solo films for Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are also inevitable. And there has been talk of a Justice League Dark film from Guillermo del Toro, while a Green Lantern-Flash team-up movie has been rumored. While we wait for more news, we have another potential option: Legion of Superheroes.

According to Latino-Review, Warner Bros. is looking to answer the success of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy with its own DC space film. The studio is said to be pitching the Legion of Superheroes comic to screenwriters. What would follow is that the screenwriters would send their own ideas for a movie based on the comic to WB, and whoever has the best version gets the job. So, this is very early development for the film, and anything can easily change at this point.

As for whether Legion of Superheroes could be one of the nine untitled DC films, Latino-Review is unsure. However, given the recent craze for space films – Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars at Disney, Interstellar at Paramount and Avatar at 20th Century Fox – it wouldn’t be shocking to see WB/DC move forward with their own. While the studio may be uncertain about developing a new Green Lantern movie after the first film bombed, Legion of Superheroes is another option

Created in 1958, the Legion of Superheroes is a group of heroes who live in the 30th and 31st centuries. The time-traveling team is known for its connections with Superman, and founding members include Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl and Lightning Lad. The Legion has made appearances in hit DC shows Superman: The Animated Series, Smallville and Justice League Unlimited. The group has also headlined the animated series Legion of Super Heroes, which ran for two seasons. Be sure to stay tuned for more news on the Legion’s potential big screen debut as we have it.
