Ben Affleck Praises BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Director Zack Snyder And Visual Effects

Ben Afleck’s most recent movie, Gone Girl, opens in theaters this weekend, and the acclaimed actor-director has been promoting the David Fincher-helmed film for a few weeks. Unsurprisingly, he is often asked about his much-hyped about role as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And even less surprisingly, Affleck has refused to discuss any details regarding the DC team-up epic. However, he has now opened up a little bit in his latest interview.

Speaking with Inquirer, Affleck jokes about his “stern Batman look” that he donned during his appearance at the Batman v Superman panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. He then reiterates his praise for Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder, as well as Chris Terrio’s script. “‘Batman [v Superman]’ has a great script. It has a very talented director (Zack Snyder), a really strong, smart, robust and experienced studio behind it, so it’s very exciting.” He then goes into detail regarding his thoughts on Snyder, who previously helmed last year’s Man of Steel and will return to direct the Dawn of Justice follow-up, Justice League. “Zack has more energy than anybody I know. He works as hard as anybody. He’s in the gym in the morning and storyboards every single shot, which is a huge amount of work. So everybody knows what’s going on. He’s got enormous visual talent. I stand there and he sets up shots. We do the blocking and…I see a shot from Zack and I think, I never would have thought of that.”

Affleck continues, “He is so visually inventive so that’s quite pleasant. Action movies take a lot of days and involve a lot of stunts and visual effects—that combination and the story has its own challenges but I’m enjoying it. What I’ve learned from Zack in the movie are the cutting-edge visual effects—what we’re able to do now and how you integrate that into a story. He’s very gifted.” Perhaps he can apply what he’s learned from Snyder if he ends up directing his own Batman movie?
