DC Announces Digital First Comic WONDER WOMAN ’77 Based On Lynda Carter TV Series

We usually don’t cover comic book news on Watchtower of Babel, but this new announcement is sure to please die-hard DC television fans. At its “DC Digital: Download This!” panel at New York Comic-Con, DC Entertainment announced a new digital first comic title, Wonder Woman ’77. Based on the iconic 1970s television series starring Lynda Carter, this title will begin its run digitally in December with six weekly chapters. These chapters will then be collected in two print issues slated for an early 2015 release, and the series will resume in the spring. Marc Andreyko is writing the Wonder Woman ’77 comic, while Nicola Scott will draw several covers. Other artists are yet to be announced.

This move comes off the heels of the success of Batman ’66, another DC digital first title based on a classic television series. Wonder Woman ’77 also follows the launch of Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman. The 1970s television show is still one of the most familiar depictions of Diana Prince in mainstream media, and it is one of the character’s few prominent live action appearances. These new comic titles will surely give Wonder Woman more needed exposure, in time for her big screen debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
