DC Movie News Bits: Nolan Brothers Not Involved In Future DC Movies + Jena Malone Evades Robin Rumor

Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan and his brother, screenwriter Jonathan, both had a key hand in DC’s recent movie success. The two worked on The Dark Knight Trilogy, which grossed nearly $2.5B worldwide and is the most critically acclaimed superhero series to date. Chris also produced the Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel, which kick-started the DC Cinematic Universe. Even though Chris and his wife, Emma Thomas, are attached to 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as executive producers, Jonathan has denied that the Nolan brothers will be involved in future DC films.

Speaking with Coming Soon while promoting Interstellar, Jonah Nolan was unsurprisingly asked if he and/or Chris would have any involvement in the multiple DC films Warner Bros. will release in the coming years. He reaffirms that we should not expect to see them have a hand in this universe going forward, saying, “I love those guys and my brother was involved in ‘Man of Steel’ with Zack [Snyder] and David [Goyer]. I kind of feel like that chapter for us is closed.” However, he then adds that the door is not entirely closed on the possibility. “To be continued somewhere farther down the line? Maybe.” Despite the success of the movies the Nolans were involved with, however, it appears that WB is going in a different direction with future DC installments.

One of the most recent casting rumors surrounding Batman v Superman claimed that Jena Malone is set to play Carrie Kelly, aka the female Robin. Malone is reportedly definitely in the movie, but her exact role has yet to be confirmed. Kelly would make sense, as the film clearly boasts some Dark Knight Returns influence (specifically for Ben Affleck’s Batman). However, fans have also expressed interest in seeing the Hunger Games: Catching Fire actress in another role, such as Barbara Gordon. Now, Malone has been asked the question, but of course, she refuses to answer.

E! Online asked the actress at Brook Brothers directly if she was playing Robin. The reporter goes on to reveal that Malone “… didn’t even blink. She gave me a little wave and slid off to the bar.” Usually in instances such as this, the actor would deny the rumor he or she is asked about, regardless if it is true or false. However, with Malone apparently being caught off guard by this question, perhaps there’s something to the Robin rumor? We’ll see. Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25th, 2016.
