THE LEGO MOVIE’s Batman To Star In His Own Spin-Off For 2017 Release

The LEGO Movie was one of the most successful movies of 2014, cementing the popularity of the biggest toy brand of all time. Unsurprisingly, a sequel was dated for May 2017 shortly after the first film’s release, with a Ninjago movie set for a Fall 2016 debut. One of The LEGO Movie‘s most memorable characters was Batman, voiced by Will Arnett. This take on the DC Comics legend was one of the funniest to date, and it’s easy to wish to see more of him. Now, it looks like we will.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a spin-off of The LEGO Movie focusing on Batman. Arnett is set to reprise the role of the Caped Crusader. Chris McKay, who was set to direct the LEGO Movie sequel, is now helming this project as the direct follow-up is delayed. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter‘s Seth Grahame-Smith is writing the LEGO Batman movie, which is targeting a 2017 release date. The LEGO Movie 2 is now expected to release sometime after 2017, possibly in one of the 2018/2019 dates previously reserved for LEGO movies.

Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Dan Lin and Roy Lee are producing the LEGO Batman spin-off, which is the latest milestone in one of LEGO’s most successful brands. The LEGO Batman/LEGO DC Superheroes lines have been very prosperous, and two video games have been released. The third, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, is slated for a November 11th release. And earlier today, Cartoon Network announced plans to air a LEGO Batman television special later this month. In addition, LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Superheroes Unite was released last year. So, a big screen movie for this incarnation of the Dark Knight is a logical next step. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
