Anne Hathaway Wants To Reprise Catwoman Role For Future DC Movies; Christopher Nolan Excited For BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

One of the most memorable characters in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises is undoubtedly Selina Kyle, played brilliantly by Anne Hathaway. While not quite as comic book-accurate as past incarnations, this version of Catwoman still impressed many. In fact, even though Christopher Nolan’s take on the world of Batman is complete, there has been speculation that Catwoman would star in her own spin-off film, and Hathaway has shown her interest in the idea in the past.

Speaking with IGN while promoting Interstellar, Hathaway once again shares her thoughts on reprising the role of Selina Kyle in her own movie. Turns out the Oscar winner is certainly up for the job, on one condition. “I would be totally up for doing it. If Chris [Nolan] was involved. For me, the thing that made doing that part particularly fun was that she existed in his Gotham. Without him I don’t think it would be the same thing. But I also wonder about that part. If because she’s a thief, it’s not better to have her be a small part in a larger film.  So she can go through and steal aspects of the film. But when the focus is squarely on her, I don’t know if it works as well.”

However, Hathaway expresses interest in making a cameo as Catwoman in one of the many DC movies coming out in the next few years, despite Nolan having no involvement with them. “Oh yeah that’d be fun. I’d definitely love that. I want to play her again. I don’t know – this is just speculation, because I do think about it sometimes – I think she’s got an amazing backstory and it would be great to see her get her own film. But I don’t know – she is someone who… mystery serves her well so I don’t know what a whole film would do. But who knows?” As purrfect as Hathaway was as Catwoman, if that character is included in the DC Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. will probably cast another actress to differentiate this version from Nolan’s, especially as the latter looks to be definitively concluded.

In other news, Nolan himself has weighed in on the next DC movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Speaking with USA Today, the Interstellar writer-director comments on the next big screen iteration of the Dark Knight, who will be played by Ben Affleck. Even though Nolan’s Batman, played by Christian Bale, was a huge success – The Dark Knight Trilogy grossed about $2.5B at the worldwide box office – the director is very excited to see what Affleck and helmer Zack Snyder come up with for this next version. “Zack’s a great friend, and I know Ben and he’s just an extraordinary guy. I’ll be the first in line to see what they’ve done.”

Even though Affleck’s casting as Batman was initially met with much backlash, the acclaimed actor-director’s take on the Caped Crusader already looks to be much closer to the source material than Bale’s, which should please comic book fans. Stay tuned for more as we have it. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters March 25th, 2016.
