Hans Zimmer Reteaming With Junkie XL For BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE Score

After his critically acclaimed work on both The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, Hans Zimmer is set to reprise his scoring duties for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since his prior work on Batman was an entirely different incarnation from this movies’, there has been concern with whether or not Zimmer can successfully compose a new theme for Batfleck. The composer himself has discussed this challenge before. Now, however, Zimmer is recruiting a friend to help him out with scoring this film.

Speaking with Spinoff Online, Zimmer revealed that, after much “agonizing” over trying to create a new Batman theme, he has asked past collaborator Junkie XL to tackle the Batman portions of Dawn of Justice while Zimmer works on the Superman pieces. “You know something? I have agonized over it. I agonized over it, so much so that finally, I went, I don’t want to betray what Chris, James Newton Howard and I did. And so I asked Zack [Snyder] if it would be OK if I called a friend in. And I’m going to be working with Junkie XL, who really is a great friend. He just finished the Mad Max score. I said to him, “You take care of Batman. I’ll do the other guy.” And Zack loved that idea. It’s a way out.” Junkie previously scored the Snyder-produced 300: Rise of an Empire, while he has worked with Zimmer on bonus tracks for The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel soundtracks.

This is a wise move, as it allows Zimmer to put more focus on the Superman score he previously excelled at while another composer delivers a fresh new Batman theme. It is also a decision that fans suggested in the past, considering Zimmer co-scoring Batman Begins and The Dark Knight with James Newton Howard. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
