Two More Potential Contenders To Direct WONDER WOMAN Movie Revealed

This week, it was reported that Warner Bros. was narrowing down its choice to direct the Wonder Woman movie, with Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad‘s Michelle MacLaren said to be the top contender for the highly coveted gig. This comes off of rumors revealing that the studio was seeking a female director for this production, which finally gives the world’s most iconic superheroine her own movie. Of course, in the event that MacLaren turns down Wonder Woman, Warner is looking at other choices, and we may now know two of them.

In the trade’s piece on MacLaren emerging as a frontrunner, The Hollywood Reporter affirms that the studio has met with “numerous” female directors, but not specifically for Wonder Woman. Meetings for other DC movies, perhaps? Regardless, over the past week, WB has reportedly met with The Babadook director Jennifer Kent, while Homeland executive producer and director Lesli Linka Glatter is said to be on the studio’s shortlist of helmers to meet. Again, THR doesn’t specify if these meetings are for Wonder Woman or another movie, but don’t be surprised if it’s the former.

Even with MacLaren being the frontrunner, THR says that Warner is not dead set on hiring a female director. In other words, the studio is apparently open to having a male director tackle Wonder Woman, but the majority of candidates look to be female. Finally, THR reaffirms that it’s unknown how far along in negotiations MacLaren is with WB. We should hear something official soon.

Starring Gal Gadot, Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters June 23rd, 2017.
