AMC Orders Pilot for PREACHER

The explosion of DC Comics on television is set to continue
as Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher
has received a pilot order.  If
picked up, Preacher will follow Arrow, Flash, Constantine, iZombie and next
year’s Supergirl to television.
The pilot is being developed by Point Grey Pictures, a
production company started by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.  They’ve teamed up with Prison Break and Fast and
Furious
producer, Neal H. Moritz.
Also joining them will be Breaking
Bad
producer, Sam Catlin to develop the show.  Sony Television and AMC Studios own the
rights to the show and it has been highly sought after already.
Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon created Preacher in 1995 and released by DC Comics in the Vertigo
imprint.  It followed a small town Texas preacher
named Jesse Custer.  His entire
congregation was killed and the church he served was destroyed when he was
possessed by a creature named, Genesis.
Custer and Genesis become bonded, making him perhaps the most powerful
being in existence.
Custer learns he has the power to control people’s will and
he travels the US with his ex-girlfriend and a vampire in search of God after
he abandoned Heaven when Genesis was born.
Rogen and Goldberg called Preacher a long-time favorite and have promised to treat the television
adaptation with respect.  AMC
Executive-VP Joel Stillerman also expressed the network’s excitement for the
project; “Every once in a while you
find a project where all the elements line up beautifully. With Preacher, it starts with a bold,
compelling, and thought-provoking comic book series from Garth Ennis and Steve
Dillon and a whole lot of fans who already know Jesse Custer, Cassidy, and
Tulip… Add to that the passionate and talented Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and
Sam Catlin, an incredible producing team in Neal Moritz, the Original Film team
and our good friends at Sony Pictures Television, and we have everything we
need to be VERY excited to move forward on Preacher
.”
