DC Movie News Bits: Another Tease For SHAZAM’s Black Adam, More From Jeremy Irons on Alfred, Michael Keaton On Batman Jealousy

With the Shazam movie dated for April 5th, 2019, it’ll likely be a while before we receive solid news on it. Dwayne Johnson is set to play anti-hero/villain Black Adam in the Warner Bros.-New Line Cinema production, with Darren Lemke working on the script. For now, we have the occasional tease from “The Rock” on finally landing a role he’s been aching to play for years. This week, we have one of those teases.

During the latest edition of “#RockTalk” on Twitter, Johnson reaffirmed his approach to Black Adam’s character: a brutal yet charming anti-hero. This should play well to the actor’s charisma, as well as giving him new ground to cover when it comes to his chops. Below is the tweet, and check Johnson’s profile for the entire #RockTalk session.

We recently heard from actor Jeremy Irons on his version of Alfred Pennyworth in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, revealing that his take on the iconic character will be different from others. And now, during an interview with Indiewire, Irons offers a few more tidbits. He comments on why he signed on for the role, saying that it would make him a more recognizable name. This would help with any independent films he works on. He then calls Zack Snyder an “interesting” director, before once again describing his version of Alfred. “Oh he’ll be quite different. He has an interesting history. He’s a very competent man. He’s the sort of man I think anyone would like to be married to. He can sort of do everything: change light bulbs, blow up bridges if he has to.” For Indiewire’s full interview with Irons, click the link above. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters March 25th, 2016.
A few weeks ago, former Batman Christian Bale admitted that he was a bit surprised, even jealous, to see Ben Affleck announced as the next Caped Crusader. However, does original Dark Knight Michael Keaton feel the same way? Speaking with Shortlist, the acclaimed Birdman actor – who starred in 1989’s Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns – is asked this very question. His answer is rather perfect. “No. Do you know why? Because I’m Batman. I’m very secure in that.”
Keaton goes on to discuss the legacy of the 1989 film, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. “Tim changed, or started, everything. And I’m proud of the choice I made, in terms of how to play Batman. It’s probably easier now because Tim paved the way, and if I did anything to pave the way, I’m proud of that, too. I’ve never seen [a superhero movie] beginning to end. Oh actually, I saw the first Spider-Man – I thought that was really good. You can step into it more easily now, is my guess. Technically, [superhero movies] do everything for you. They create a world where all you’ve basically got to do is show up, not [bleep] it up too much and you’ll come off OK.” For the rest of Shortlist’s interview with Keaton, click the link above.
