THE BABADOOK Director Jennifer Kent Did Meet With Warner Bros., But Not For WONDER WOMAN

A few weeks ago, it was confirmed that Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead‘s Michelle MacLaren is set to direct the Wonder Woman movie for Warner Bros. Before the deal closed, however, the studio was considering a few other female directors for the highly coveted job. One director rumored to have met with WB concerning Wonder Woman was Jennifer Kent, who is currently promoting the release of her critically acclaimed horror film The Babadook. Speaking with IGN, Kent addressed rumors of her meeting for Wonder Woman.

The director confirmed that she did meet with Warner Bros. regarding several projects, but Wonder Woman was not one of them. “I was, for the record, never asked — Warner Brothers did fly me to America, actually, and I can say that — but they never asked about Wonder Woman. And that’s fine by me. But they did ask me about a lot of other projects, which I’m now slowly reading through.” Could Kent have met with Warner for another DC movie or something else entirely? She goes on to reveal whether or not she’d be interested in taking on a specific Hollywood genre film. “I’m very, very open to it. But again, I’ve got two films that I’m writing — I’m a writer-director; I can generate my own material — but I’m open to stories that move me, that suck me in. I’m looking to find writers to collaborate with on stories that I could direct, for sure. And I’m not opposed to directing films in America. I don’t see myself in the tentpole arena; maybe that’s disappointing to genre-makers, but you know, I’m open. It just really has to be an idea that grabs me like The Babadook grabbed me — then I’ll follow it to the ends of the Earth.” For the rest of IGN’s interview with Kent, click the link above.

Wonder Woman will star Gal Gadot, who will make her debut as Diana Prince in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jason Fuchs (Pan) is in talks to write the screenplay, and if he signs on, he will work with MacLaren on drafting. The film is set to hit theaters June 23rd, 2017.
