ARROW’s Marc Guggenheim Comments On Potential Batman Appearance; SUPERGIRL Crossover Still “Possible”

Arrow writer/executive producer Marc Guggenheim and Agent Carter showrunners Tara Butters (Guggenheim’s wife) and Michele Fazekas recently interviewed each other in a sitdown hosted by The Hollywood Reporter. During the discussion – which you can read in full by clicking the link – Guggenheim offers some interesting answers to Arrow related questions. When asked if there are any other Justice League members he would like to see on the series, the EP immediately points to a certain Caped Crusader. “At the end of the day it’d be so awesome to have Batman on the show. That’d be really cool. I don’t think that will be happening anytime soon, but you never know…one day. One thing we’re always saying…we never expected to have had the Huntress, Deathstroke or Deadshot; we ended up with a lot more DC Comics characters becoming part of the show than we had ever planned. It wasn’t initially part of the pitch or the conception of the show. Now here we are in our third season and we’ve Flash and the Suicide Squad and we’re going to have Katana and we have Ray Palmer, and it seems like you could field an entire show off the characters that we have introduced on Arrow. That’s so beyond anything we expected. That’s a long-winded way of saying I’ve learned not to expect anything or make any predictions because the reality has far exceeded any of our initial predictions or initial conceptions.”

While Bruce Wayne’s presence in this universe was seemingly confirmed by an Easter egg in The Flash pilot, The CW has otherwise been forbidden to use certain Batman characters, particularly Batman himself. This embargo has kept the likes of Nightwing from appearing on Arrow, and it can be attributed to the Dark Knight’s ongoing movie presence, as well as Fox’s Gotham. So, while Guggenheim is taking the “never say never” approach here, don’t expect to see Oliver Queen meet Batman anytime soon, if ever.

However, one character that could possibly appear is Supergirl, who will headline her own TV show for CBS. Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl EP Greg Berlanti previously suggested that Kara Zor-El could crossover into The CW’s take on the DC Universe. When asked about the chances of this happening, Guggenheim simply says, “It’s possible.” However, THR butts in, adding more fuel to the fire. “I actually heard it’s in Greg’s deal, that Supergirl can cross over with Flash and/or Arrow.” The possibility of this occurring shouldn’t be surprising; in addition to Berlanti’s involvement, CBS co-owns The CW, making the crossover more possible than, say, Fox and NBC teaming up to cross over Gotham and Constantine. Integrating Supergirl into the world of Arrow and The Flash would also serve as the introduction of aliens into this universe, adding more variety to a highly engrossing franchise. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
