Producer David Heyman Offers a FABLES Update

Bill Willingham’s Fables
has been one of the most popular and praised comics of the last decade.  The story of Bigby Wolf, Snow White and the
people of Fabletown has pulled in fourteen Eisner Awards thus far and its
popularity has given rise to two television series inspired by the book: Once Upon a Time on ABC and Grimm on NBC.
However, when it comes to live action adaptations, Fables has been in development hell for
quite a while now.   Warner Brothers
Television tried to develop a series in 2005 with NBC; the project fizzled and
was eventually reworked into Grimm.  When they again with ABC in 2008, that
project fizzled and became Once Upon a
Time
David Heyman, a producer on most of the Harry Potter films, picked
up Fables for Warner Film in 2012
and recently let Spinoff know how the project is coming.  Heyman has been working with X-Men and Kick-Ass writer and producer, Jane
Goldman.  He told Spinoff Online: “Jane Goldman is working on the draft as we
speak.
”  Heyman also mentioned A Royal Affair director Nikolaj Arcel,
who has been attached to direct; “Nik
Arcel… did a draft, and now he’s supervising Jane, who’s doing a draft.
He explained his passion for Fables comes from the vividness of the characters.  “I’m
drawn to stories about outsiders… They’re people who are all separate, and
how they ultimately have to form the community in order to survive… I just
think the characters are so vivid.
Finally, Heyman urged patience for Fables fans.  “All these things always take longer than you
want.
