Joel Kinnaman in Talks to Replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in SUICIDE SQUAD

Tom Hardy was originally set to play Rick Flagg in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad film, but he dropped out last month due to scheduling and script issues. With production beginning in April, the movie has been moving fast to find a new actor for the role. Jake Gyllenhaal was offered the part, but he turned it down. Actors such as Joel Edgerton, Jon Bernthal and Karl Urban were later rumored to be in contention, and now, it looks like the studio has made its choice.

According to Latino-Review, Robocop and The Killing star Joel Kinnaman has entered talks to play Flagg following a “strong” audition. The trades, including The Wrap, confirmed that the actor is in negotiations for the role. While a deal apparently has yet to close, it is currently looking good as Kinnaman is now the frontrunner.

Assuming that all goes well, expect Warner Bros. to officially announce this casting soon, along with Viola Davis (who has been in talks to play Amanda Waller) and actors for other roles. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters August 5th, 2016. The third installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Jared Leto. David Ayer writes and directs.
