Melissa Benoist Talks Playing SUPERGIRL; Casting Call Sent Out For…Superman?

Here, we have a couple of news tidbits for CBS’ upcoming pilot and potential series, Supergirl. Star Melissa Benoist spoke with Comic Book Resources at Film Independent’s Spirit Awards ceremony, where she commented on Kara Zor-El being a “relatable”character. “What’s so wonderful about her is that she is such a relatable character, amongst her powers. What I’m the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength, and I think that’s something that everyone will root for and want in their own lives – I’m really excited about that.”

Meanwhile, Benoist refused to confirm whether or not she would be wearing a version of the Supergirl costume. However, she has taken a “good look” at the comic book costume and admits that it is “daunting” to take on the iconic role. “It’s a little daunting. It’s daunting, but that’s good. I like being pushed. I work well under pressure.”

In other news, the Supergirl pilot is set to begin production in Los Angeles next month. Project Castings (via Krypton Site) has sent out a casting call that is seeking a body double for a “DC Comics Superhero.” Those who are interested in filling this role must be “5’11 or taller and be Square Jawed and have a ripped physique. You must send a bodyshot, shirtless, sizes, current contact info and your first five to [email deleted] – in the subject line write SUPERMAN.”

So, it looks like we could very well see Superman in the Supergirl pilot. The catch, however, appears to be that the Man of Steel will only played by a stand-in photo double, rather than a full-fledged appearance. This shouldn’t be surprising, since Henry Cavill is currently playing the character in the DC Cinematic Universe. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
