Possible Info on Jay Hernandez’s Character and Other Villain Cameos in SUICIDE SQUAD; Will Smith Talks “Defining” Deadshot

Last night, it was reported that actor Jay Hernandez is in talks for a role in the Suicide Squad movie. All that is known about his character is that he may be one of The Joker’s cellmates. And now, we have a new rumor that may reveal who Hernandez is playing, as well as what other DC supervillains we can expect to see.

According to Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe, Hernandez is playing the DC villain Chato Santana, aka El Diablo. The character is said to have a small role that is only a cameo in the “super powered criminal” area of the prison, which is probably Belle Reve. As for other appearances, it sounds like we can expect fan-favorite supervillains such as Killer Frost, King Shark, Livewire and Blockbuster to pop up.

If this rumor is true, then Suicide Squad will mark the live action debuts of all of these characters except for Killer Frost; her alter ego, Caitlin Snow, is currently a series regular on The Flash. This is also a unique way to open up the villains’ side of the DC Cinematic Universe.

In other Suicide Squad news, Will Smith has once again spoken about starring as Deadshot. In an interview with MTV, the Oscar nominee discusses having a shot at creating the definitive live action take on the character. who is making his big screen debut in this film. “With this character and the DC world, I love that I’m getting the opportunity for the global definition of Deadshot. There’s been Deadshot in little appearances here and there, there’s an idea, but Deadshot isn’t defined, really. I get to be a part of the creation that will be the biggest historical image of Deadshot.” Deadshot has appeared in various forms of media before, most notably Arrow, but Smith’s portrayal will be what defines the assassin for ages to come.

Meanwhile, Smith’s Focus co-star Margot Robbie – who is playing Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad – also talks to MTV about the DC Entertainment production. She recalls pushing Smith to take the Deadshot role after she signed on, and she then says that she hopes to play Harley for many more films in the DC Cinematic Universe. Based on her research of the character, Robbie thinks that Harley is “rad.” Most comic book fans would agree.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters August 5th, 2016. The third installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne and Jared Leto. David Ayer writes and directs.
