Berlanti and Kreisberg Tease ARROW/FLASH Spin-Off

While Arrow and Flash prepare to return to the CW this
week for the final legs of their third and first seasons, Andrew Kreisberg and
Greg Berlanti are also hard at work developing and hyping the next entry to the
DC-CW-Universe.  The pair took time out
of their increasingly busy schedules and spoke with Entertainment Weekly to
tease the currently untitled Arrow/Flash
spinoff.
It’s safe to say that Kreisberg and Berlanti are riding
pretty high at this point.  Just a few
years ago, most DC Fans that knew their name at all might only know them as a
writer of a few episodes of the Justice
League
cartoon and a producer on the Green
Lantern
film respectively.  Smash
hits with Arrow and The Flash and the buzz surrounding Supergirl have pretty much made the
pair the kings of Comic Book Television.
The series is set to star Brandon Routh, Victor Garber and
Wentworth Miller and Caity Lotz.  All
except Lotz have specifically been attached to their current Arrow/Flash characters; her status
remains unclear likely due to spoilers for upcoming storylines.  While Kreisberg and Berlanti did not reveal
much they did explain the tone they hope to set with the new series.
Berlanti told the interviewer that he hopes the series
honors all of the great team up
movies, whether it’s
Ocean’s
Eleven
or whether it’s
the superhero books.
That’s what it’s
about. If you go back to the old westerns, there would be The Lone Gunman, but there would also be The Magnificent Seven. It’s very much in the spirit of those kinds
of movies and shows.
Kreisberg said that he would not be interested in doing
another series if it was not distinct.
I only want to do them when
I know that they’ll feel distinct from the other shows we’re doing… This is
really its own thing.”
Another thing fans noticed when the spin-off was initially
announced was that while the show had Victor Garber returning as Martin Stein,
Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond was not announced.  Neither man was forthcoming but Berlanti
explain that there was a reason even if they could not say why.
The EW article also confirmed that the series is not part of
the CW’s current crop of pilots.
Watchtower will keep up with any news for this and all DC-Television
and Film projects as it comes.  Stay
Tuned.

UPDATE

In an article from Variety, Berlanti and Kreisberg discussed
the upcoming series and some of the new characters they intend to
introduce.  As previously reported HERE,
they plan to introduce three DC characters that have never been seen in live
action before.
Berlanti explained that
they were careful in picking characters they would help build the right chemistry:
Introducing these three new
characters that we’re casting right now… I think it’s really important that we
have another female hero on the show, and this one is really exciting. I can’t
wait for people to find out — we just have to cast it right, as always. And
then you want that Rat Pack-y kind of vibe of all this crew hanging out, as
disparate and as different as they are.

Berlanti also stressed the importance of picking
a villain that is up to the task of challenging the heroes.  He then teased the villain they have in mind,
saying; “The villain that we have on
that show is distinct too… another big character who hasn’t been used yet.
