PREACHER Pilot Casts Ruth Negga as Female Lead

It’s been a few weeks since we’ve had anything to report on
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s developing series based on Preacher.  That wait is
over.  Deadline is reporting that Ruth
Negga was the first person cast for the pilot as the female lead, Tulip O’Hare.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Ruth Negga broke into acting
in 2004 on the BBC series Doctors.  She had a lot of roles in English film
and television but has started to work in the US more regularly in the last few
years with roles in World War Z, 12
Years a Slave and the upcoming
Warcraft film.  She also had a long
run on Agents of SHIELD.  (imdb)

She will be playing Tulip O’Hare, the ex-girlfriend and love
interest of the title character, Jesse Custer. 
After her mother died during child birth, O’Hare’s father raised her on
his own, which included training her in various firearms, before his death in a
hunting accident.  She met Jesse in a bar
one night while waiting for a friend and had a whirlwind romance before Jesse
had to leave town with enemies on his tail.

volatile force of nature.  She is a
capable criminal with the ability to improvise her way out of any situation.
