SUICIDE SQUAD: New Details on Jared Leto’s Joker and Presence of a Certain Batman Villain

Arguably the most exciting addition to the cast of Suicide Squad is Jared Leto, who will play The Joker. Little is officially known about this take on the most iconic supervillain of all time. However, a new report has shed light on what to expect from the Oscar winner’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime.

After revealing new info on the characters that the Suicide Squad will go up against in the upcoming DC movie, Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe has now shared new details on what to expect from Jared Leto’s take on The Joker. He reveals which particular storyline from the comics that this Joker is based on, as well as his interactions with other characters in the movie. One of these is a fan-favorite Batman villain who we previously didn’t know was in this film.

So, as you may have guessed, Leto’s Joker is inspired by the one seen in The Dark Knight Returns. This makes sense, as the DC Cinematic Universe’s Batman is also inspired by the iteration seen in Frank Miller’s critically acclaimed graphic novel. This Joker is more muscular, lean, scarred and has broad shoulders. Again, this shouldn’t be surprising, since Leto previously said he was bulking up for the role.

That’s not the only Dark Knight Returns influence, however, as apparently, Joker will have already killed one of Batman’s sidekicks. Jason Todd, perhaps? This and other crimes have inevitably placed Joker behind bars, and there is a scene where he works out in his cell while being interrogated by Amanda Waller. Joker also has bleached skin, rather than make-up.

Finally, in what he calls a “hot rumor,” Mayimbe says that Joker will share plenty of screentime with none other than Hugo Strange, a character who has frequently gone up against Batman. In Suicide Squad, Dr. Strange is the psychiatrist at the prison (probably Belle Reve). However, Mayimbe has not heard anything about this character when it comes to casting. Strange apparently has several one-on-one interactions with Joker and Harley Quinn.

Some more interesting details here, that’s for sure. Hopefully, Warner Bros. will officially announce casting for Strange and other characters as we get closer to Suicide Squad‘s start of production. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
