Breaking: Director Michelle MacLaren Exits WONDER WOMAN Movie Due to “Creative Differences”

Some unexpected news has been announced for Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman movie. Director Michelle MacLaren, who was set to make her feature film debut here, has dropped out of the DC Comics adaptation, via The Hollywood Reporter. The studio sent out a statement regarding MacLaren’s departure, citing “creative differences” (a phrase frequently used when a director exits a movie). The statement reads, “Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together.”

In addition to directing, MacLaren was set to work on the story for Wonder Woman alongside the film’s screenwriters. While Jason Fuchs was the first scribe to be linked to the movie, THR reveals that there are “multiple” scripts from different screenwriters being written at the same time. This is a process that is apparently being used for many of the DC films. MacLaren was “heavily” involved in shaping the Wonder Woman scripts.

MacLaren’s exit is unlikely to affect the 2017 release date for Wonder Woman, which will star Gal Gadot as the iconic DC superheroine. This is surely a disappointing announcement for some, but WB will likely find a new director sooner than later and move forward as originally planned. Who do you think should direct Wonder Woman?
