Breaking: WONDER WOMAN Finds its New Director in Patty Jenkins

It was just confirmed the other day that Michelle MacLaren was no longer directing Wonder Woman, forcing the studio to quickly search for a replacement. We just shared a rumor earlier that claimed Angelina Jolie was a possible contender, but now, Warner Bros. has officially hired a new director for the highly coveted gig.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Monster director Patty Jenkins has closed a deal to helm Wonder Woman for WB. Ironically, Jenkins was attached to direct Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World a few years ago, but she dropped out due to “creative differences” – the same reason cited when MacLaren left Wonder Woman.

With a new director in place, Wonder Woman can now move along as originally planned in development. Sources for Variety reaffirm that MacLaren’s exit was a “minor” speed bump, and the movie will still begin production this fall. Casting for the rest of the film’s leads, including Steve Trevor, is the next stage in the pre-production process. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters June 23rd, 2017. The fourth installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Gal Gadot. Jason Fuchs is set to write the screenplay.
