Red Hood Reportedly a “Top Priority” for DC Cinematic Universe; JOHN WICK Directors Being Courted For a Film

Latino-Review is back with another DC movie scoop, and this one is a doozy. According to the site, directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch – who helmed last year’s acclaimed action flick John Wick – are being courted by Warner Bros. to take on an unspecified DC film.

There are certainly plenty of options for which movie it is. David Ayer and Michelle MacLaren are directing Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, respectively, while Zack Snyder is set to helm both Justice League movies. Still to officially lock down directors are The Flash (Chris Miller and Phil Lord are rumored to be circling this one), Aquaman (for which both Jeff Nichols and Noam Murro are reportedly in consideration), Shazam (James Wan has been suggested for this), Cyborg and Green Lantern.

Stahelski and Leitch could be sought for any one of these. Perhaps it’s a DC movie that isn’t on the current schedule, such as the Batman solo film, Man of Steel 2 or even Dark Universe (Justice League Dark). Their stuntwork and fight choreography in John Wick was widely praised, making the two an ideal candidate to direct a superhero movie. We’ll just have to wait and see.

In even more interesting news, Latino-Review has apparently received details on plans to incorporate a fan-favorite character into the DC Cinematic Universe: Jason Todd, aka the Red Hood. He is apparently a “top priority” for DC at the moment. Details on how he is introduced into the DCCU can be found below.

[Warning: The Following Contains Possible SPOILERS.]
So, according to Latino-Review, Jason Todd’s Robin costume is on display in the Batcave in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Todd was infamously known for being killed by The Joker in the comics, before being resurrected as the villain/antihero Red Hood. It sounds like the same will be canon here. Also worth noting, in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, Bruce Wayne retired from the Batman cowl following Todd’s death. Could we be seeing that aspect adapted into the movie?
Meanwhile, the ramifications of this death will reportedly be felt in Suicide Squad as well. In that film, the relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn is strained, due to Harley’s guilt over Todd’s murder. Details on when Todd will reemerge as the Red Hood are unknown, but don’t be surprised if he appears in the next standalone Batman movie.
Some interesting info here, for sure. The story of Jason Todd has plenty of potential for the DCCU, and seeing his death and resurrection, as well as becoming Red Hood, would be fascinating. My favorite animated DC movie is still Batman: Under the Red Hood, and a live action version of that would be perfect. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
