Rumor: Is Common Playing AQUAMAN Villain Black Manta in SUICIDE SQUAD?

Recently, it was revealed that actor-rapper Common has joined the cast of Suicide Squad, which is currently undergoing production. At the time, it was unclear which role he would play. Was he finally being given the chance to play Green Lantern John Stewart after Justice League: Mortal was canned? Or is he playing another character? Rumor has it that it is the latter, and Common may be playing a fan-favorite villain from the comics.

According to JoBlo, Common might be playing none other than Black Manta, a frequent enemy of Aquaman. Manta has had connections to the Squad, as he turned down joining the team more than once in comic book lore. While we don’t know if that will remain true for the film, it sounds like Manta won’t have a huge role in Suicide Squad. Rather, he is being set up for a much larger presence in the Aquaman movie, which is set to hit theaters July 27th, 2018.

Of course, this news has yet to be confirmed officially, so take it with a pinch of salt for now. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

Suicide Squad is scheduled to hit theaters August 5th, 2016.
