Chris Pine in Talks to Play Steve Trevor in WONDER WOMAN

Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman movie recently found a new director in Patty Jenkins, and the DC Comics epic is able to move into the casting phase of pre-production. Despite past rumors, Scott Eastwood is not playing Steve Trevor in Suicide Squad. For that role, actors such as Alexander Skarsgard and Liam Hemsworth were rumored to be in contention. But now, it looks like the studio has chosen its male lead.

According to Variety, Star Trek star Chris Pine is in talks to play Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman. This finally marks the actor’s comic book movie debut, and the role could lead to appearances in other DC Cinematic Universe installments.

In the traditional Wonder Woman origin, Trevor was an intelligence officer from the US Army who crash lands in Themyscira, Diana’s homeland. He becomes Diana’s love interest and plays a key role in her becoming Wonder Woman. It is unknown how much of this will be in the movie.

As for Scott Eastwood, Variety reaffirms that the actor did have a choice between screentesting for Trevor or playing a supporting role in Suicide Squad. As the latter character (who is presently not known) was a guarantee for him, he opted for that instead.

Chris Pine was rumored a couple of times to play Hal Jordan/Green Lantern – once for the 2011 movie, and again this year for the DC Cinematic Universe. Pine was also one of our top choices to play The Flash before Ezra Miller was cast. However, it looks like WB finally found a role for him to play in the DCCU, assuming that negotiations go well. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters June 23rd, 2017. The fourth installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Gal Gadot. Patty Jenkins will direct from a script by Jason Fuchs.
