DC Movie News Bits: Jason Momoa Talks New 52 Aquaman, SUICIDE SQUAD Production Update, Martian Manhunter Sculpt From JUSTICE LEAGUE: MORTAL

Aquaman star Jason Momoa held a panel at Phoenix Comic-Con this weekend, and our friend Caleb from Omega Underground was in attendance. When asked which Aquaman comics he has been reading in preparation for the role, Momoa reveals that he has been reading the New 52 series, and he recently met with writer Geoff Johns. “Well, I just got to meet Geoff Johns. We sat down and went over The New 52 Aquaman. I mean I already read the first 10 issues, but we got to sit down and really talk about a lot of great points from past and things that he has done, and talked about where the future of the movie can go.”

Momoa went on to rehash past comments about doing a movie role his kids can watch, as well as the influence of his Hawaiian backstory on his Aquaman. In fact, before he became an actor, he wished to study Marine Biology in college. Additionally, Momoa reveals that he has been a longtime reader of comics, citing titles such as X-Men and The Crow.

Suicide Squad has been filming for well over a month now, and there have been many set photos and videos. While the amount may seem overwhelming, they seemingly only show a handful of scenes from the movie. The most SPOILER-ific reveal was confirmation that, yes, Batman is making an appearance. Now, we have a production update that should please fans who are not thrilled with the set leaks.

Writer-director David Ayer announced on Twitter that public filming for Suicide Squad on the streets of Toronto has finished. Fortunately, the set photos have only revealed “the tiniest glimpse” from the film, and none of its surprises were ruined. Stay tuned for more as we have it. Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 8th, 2016.

Finally, we have another behind-the-scenes image from the cancelled film Justice League: Mortal. The Twitter page for the hopeful documentary Miller’s Justice League Mortal has shared a conceptual sculpt of Martian Manhunter, who would have been played by Hugh Keays-Byrne.
Additionally, the page cautioned that no more images will be released until the documentary is produced. And even that cannot move forward until the producers are given full permission to do so. Hopefully, development will go according to plan, as a full BTS look at what Justice League: Mortal could have been would be fascinating.
